Dishwasher Pete

by anne elizabeth moore | 07/17/2007 | in independent publishing | zines

Pete Jordan's schedule for the Letterman show again, this time to hype his NewsCorp book. I'm thinking he'll probably go, but wouldn't it be great if he didn't? I think I would love that.

He has to promote his book, otherwise the big daddy corps will never let him publish again.

Pete wasn't an easy guest by which I mean he answered questions but was very obviously not there to enjoy himself. I think Letterman was annoyed, somewhat understandably, although that is what made the interview actually entertaining.

-I've never heard of this guy, however, once my requested reserve copy arrives, I'll be reading his book courtesy of my local library after all, any professional cook worth his/her salt, knows a good dishwasher is (arguably) a restaurant's most valuable- yet, all too frequently their lowest paid employee.

-I finished reading the book a couple days ago. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 6, his writing style was ok, but the parts I wanted him to expand on the most, he had the least to say and vice versa. Also, the part about washing dishes on a dinner train was pretty fucking comical. I recommend reading it, only if your library carries it. Fuckin' Orwell's book, Down and Out in Paris & London did a much better job as did Idwal Jones' book, High Bonnet.
