My lungs celebrate one year free of cigarette smoke being inhaled into them on a nearly hourly basis

October 2nd, 2005 I wuit smoking. I had my last cigarette before I went to work that morning. I put the rest of the pack in a file cabinet drawer and then started my new life as a "reformed whore."
I wish I could tell you that I do not miss it, that I feel so much more healthy, or that I have not gained weight, but all that would be damnable lies!

But I can tell you this. It is totally possible to quit and remain cigarette-free. I mean, look at me, I am a total fuck-up addict and I managed to do it.

Bully for you

Nice job.

Smoking looks very cool indeed and that, in addition to the chemically addictive aspects, make quitting wicked tough. I say again, nice job.

Not to mention...

That she's not even providing her support to the person who needs it...ME.

What about ME?

I just quit. I'm struggling, he's not.

If she doesn't watch it, she's going to get removed from my friends list!

There actually is...

NO SUCH THING AS ADDICTION Richard. See, there's just WEAK WILLED individuals who have NO SENSE OR DESIRE to take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for their actions. Trust me on this. Really. If I have to hear one more person say "I tried those patches and they don't work", well, let's just say the result will not be pretty.

My magical solution for the fucktards of the world: If you DON'T WANT to do something, DON'T FUCKING DO IT. If you DO want to do it, don't say you DON'T and THEN DO IT ANY FUCKING WAY YOU STUPID DIPSHITS.

Or you can chew expensive gum or use prescription drugs and patches. Cause we all know THOSE FUCKING WORK.

I just don't see any reason to deny the allure; that's naive (where are my diacritical marks when I need them?! And where is my interrobang when I need it!?). Smoking will kill your ass, mos def. Oh and, I've never been a smoker. It'd ruin my sweet, sweet voice.

it is

three years to the day since i gave up smoking.

my daughter was about to be born and i figured it was time.

up to that point i had only been having 2-3 a day at work, so it wasn't that hard when i finally quit.

before that, i was pack-a-day for about ten years.

i dont miss it at all.

Smoking is cyclical for me. I'll smoke for a while and then for a while I won't. I've been going through this cycle since I first started stealing cigarettes from my dad when I was a kid. I never have any problems giving it up when I want to. I have a theory that my brother got all of the addiction genes.

You guys oughta be ashamed

You guys oughta be ashamed of yerselves. No gumption, no stick-to-it-iveness (except Daisy.) I mean, I'm sure they'll have cures for asthma and emphezima and lung cancer soon enough. Have a little faith in science! And I guess I'm the only one who cares enough about paying for health care and state services to chip in a measly $1.50 a day in cigarette taxes? You people make me sick.

I quit a couple of years ago

I quit a couple of years ago but went cold turkey, just before I quit i started having panic attacks and didn't know what they were all I knew was i stated having trouble breathing and freaking out. So I decided to quit smoking, i crushed up my pack and tossed it in the garbage, then did the same with all the marlboro miles I saved up my matches lighters ashtrays anything that was related to smoking i through out thinking it would help....How wrong was I i ended up going through 3 months of withdrawal and thinking i was gona die so many times partly probably from the panic attacks which stopped eventually but I had so many tests done at the hospital I even went to this drug rehab telling them what i was going through and they said it wasn't from quitting the cigarettes but more a mental issue. So 3 months of feeling like crap i started getting better i don't know how but i did and haven't had any urge to smoke since.

Wait...hold god damned up here!

You went to drug rehab for quitting smoking? Who has the funds for this? What center allowed you to enroll in a program for smoking cessation? This is available at drug rehab centers?

I'm just saying because this thread makes me feel like a failure and I may need these services.

But I probably already have tumors in my lungs. :(

Soo...

Are you still an ex-smoker R.John?

How is everyone else doing?

Ironically, I am now allergic to cigarette smoke. My sinuses flip out and my throat gets itchy and I generally feel like crap and get a headache and have to get away from the smoker or I get flu-like symptoms.

I quit 4 years ago next week. For a long time, like 2 1/2 years, I still craved cigarettes. I would sometimes have a drag and then I would feel like the underside of someone's shoes. It's been nice not wanting a smoke at all.

I am still smoke-free, sondra! I hate it a lot but it also it totally great. I wish that I never had to quit, not that I want to keep smoking, but rather, that i started to begin with, really.

It sucked being a smoker.

It's funny how many people

It's funny how many people are like you, John. My parents' neighbor has smoked for 40 years and doesn't consider herself a smoker. Also, she hid it from her husband. He just died of a lung condition, but she's still around being a not-smoker smoker.

So you're saying that a healthy dose of self-delusion can ward off the big C? I'm gonna try that. I recently switched to injun tobaccy and i can't quit until i can do the calculations and see that the money i'm saving has significantly decreased the average price per pack - including the first 15 years of smoking the corporate coffin nails - to a more reasonable figure. Actually, I probably won't quit after that on account of I always get this sneaking suspicion that I might die and/or feel shitty regardless.

I'm basically to the point that I only smoke at school or when I'm drunk (usually at school).Since I won't be done with school or drinking any time soon, the plan is to keep on keepin' on.

How sad.

Anyway, it's not like quitting smoking matters much when you have to breathe Cleveland air, RJohn.

Addiction Treatment

Some of the people addicted with drug used to take it any cost. They beg money from their friends and relatives and buy the harmful drugs. They are very much drug addicted that they can even commit crime like murder.
