I represented pornsaints.org at the recent Pornsaints/Hotmovies 100 grand gala this weekend at Philly's own Transit Club. It was a fantastic party and thanks to all who came. Here's a few pics from the show.
Special thanks to Ron Jeremy, Joanna Angel, and AVN for being so supportive.
I've decided to join up with an ad agency

I'm starting a new weekly column at the Anti-Advertising Agency. I'll be ferreting out advertising's presence and impact on culture, and presenting resistance strategies. I'll be posting on Fridays.

My first column went up yesterday, with exciting news! The Great Facebook Ad Debate of November 2007's been resolved! Lookery, the company behind the legal sticky-wicket, racked up its billionth impression weeks early. It seems they've failed to monetize social networks after all. But that doesn't mean they ain't still breakin' the law . . .

Read it here: www.antiadvertisingagency.com and bookmark the column here: http://antiadvertisingagency.com/author/anne.

Sanctuary for Independent Media closed; "Art, Freedom, Democracy Series" linked to terrorism

My Chicago associate here Wafaa Bilal's been doing a residency at RPI. As an Iraqi-born political artist, his work attracts a fair amount of attention. But his most recent project, a videogame called Virtual Jihad, was shut down TWICE (the second time got our friends at the Sancutary for Independent Media cited for specious code violations, that you can hear if you visit their site.; they've also had a hand in a wiki which gives a fairly balanced account of how things have been going.)

art objects and the business press

Kerry Miller of BUSINESSWEEK recently interviewed me for this story, and I thought the questions were really interesting. They are posted here unedited by Miller, and conducted only as informal background research, but nonetheless, I liked them. Which means: you get to read them.

--

A painter turns one of his large-scale works into a series of wallets/tote bags/greeting cards/etc. He's happy that that more people are being exposed to his work and that he now has money to buy groceries, but he still feels a slight twinge of guilt. Should he?

Exxon shuts up the Yes Men

From a press release.

(Sorry for those of you reading this blog from the link on my site. Surely the constantly rotating news of new corporate censorship is bumming you out! Well, me too.)
--
One day after the Yes Men made a joke announcement that ExxonMobil
plans to turn billions of climate-change victims into a brand-new
fuel called Vivoleum, the Yes Men's upstream internet service
provider shut down Vivoleum.com, the Yes Men's spoof website, and cut
off the Yes Men's email service, in reaction to a complaint whose
source they will not identify. The provider, Broadview Networks, also

Orphan Works Series Kickoff -- Friday, May 25th --

The Chicago Underground Library is pleased to announce Orphan Works, a new reinterpretation series. Unlike traditional reading series, our performers are not reading from their own work. Some of them won’t even be reading. We’re calling upon a variety of the most creative minds in Chicago to burrow deep into our collection of anonymous works or ones for which no further information on the author can be found. Commonly referred to as “Orphan Works,” these lost publications will be brought back to life: read, reinterpreted, and reunited with the audience they’ve been missing. There is an ongoing debate on the status of works like these, and a number of groups and individuals are fighting to keep them free for creative reuse and artistic exploration.

dreams of an architect

the city was pretty last night. underneath the eclipsed moon.

and i spent many minutes with a genius.

everything seemed unreal. even the blowings of the wind. even the dark lights that lit up the back streets.

i sat at the most magnificent place, gazing down at what could be somebodys home. down at ashtrays and plastic chairs. and different architects dreams of a fire escape.

and he was there. and i was quiet.

pass the joint.

the moon was full, and kept distracting my thinking. thoughts pouring out of my mind with the smoke. i should have let it out in words. should have said something.
